The Switch
with Danny Gordon
$350 per 4 week session
Limited to 2-4 actors. Inspired by the Broadway production of Sam Shepard’s True West where Philip Seymour Hoffman and John C. Reilly switched roles each performance, this scene study class will go a step further - having actors alternate roles within a singular scene. Working through the scene in class, actors will swap roles at will, sharpening the actor’s point of view, intention and dexterity of character. This spontaneous form of play and tossing the metaphorical ball back and forth in a new way will create a sense of trust and intimacy empowering the actor in…The Switch. Actors will work every week on scenes, assigned by Danny.

“First of all you need a good foundation
Otherwise it's risky from the start...”
-Stephen Sondheim
A foundational scene study class focusing on the tools of acting and scene analysis to bolster your preparation for any class, rehearsal, set or audition.
When your instinct for a moment or character isn’t clear, where do you turn for guidance? This class will provide you with a set of tools to have in your back pocket that can be put to use on any material. Been at this a while and feel you got your tools? Let’s sharpen them together and go deeper. New to acting and don’t know where to begin when you get material? Let’s get to work. Wherever you are in your journey, this class will provide an even firmer foundation allowing you to live your fullest sense of truth under the imaginary circumstances.
Each actor will share a Google document with Danny, where you'll work one-on-one before and between classes. This collaborative process allows you to ask questions about the text, explore new tools, and further break down the script. This process will sharpen your preparation, ensuring that your acting flourishes when we come together in the classroom.
Weekly in-person rehearsals with your scene partner, preparation before the first class and in between each class is required for your success in this class. Actors will work every week on scenes, assigned by Danny.
Please note: This class is not The Switch and your focus will be a comprehensive study on one character in the scene.
Tape…To Stage…To Tape
with Danny Gordon
$350 per 4 week session
This class is set in a rehearsal environment to gain insights into our characters in order to make our self-tape work more detailed and three dimensional. We will also explore our relationship to the camera and how to begin looking at the camera as an extension of ourselves and our partner in storytelling.
Before the first class, each actor will submit a self-tape for the role they are assigned by Danny. Over the next three weeks of class, you and your scene partner will rehearse the scene you put on tape as you would in a scene study class. In between the 3rd and 4th weeks, you will self-tape again, bringing what we discovered in rehearsal to your audition.
In the final week of class, we will watch everyone's original tape back-to-back with their most recent one and discuss how our rehearsal and scene work influenced our tapes.
'Tape to Stage...' goes beyond a traditional self-tape class. Our work together will empower and inspire you to view the self-tape process in a new way, an opportunity to reveal your full self through text and ultimately capturing who you are in the most effective way for the camera to tell the best story possible.
Full class fee is due upon registration, payable through Venmo. Class fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.
